American Legion Meeting of Henry G. Fix Post 23

The regularly scheduled monthly meeting is Thursday, 10 July, 2014 at 8 p.m. with a meal at 7 p.m.

The regular meeting of Henry G. Fix Post 23 was called to order by Commander Luebke, with usual opening ceremony with 23 members and no guests present. The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. The finance report was given by showing a total bank balance of $24,002.69. The social report was given and a motion to pay bills was passed.


Service Report: Earnest Eide has a broken leg but is now home.

Membership Report: Final membership numbers remain at 205 with a goal of 202 resulting in 101.49%. New materials for the next year will be arriving.

Americanism Report: The new representative is now Bob Bennet.

Legislative Report: No report

Baseball Report: New patches have been received.

Baseball Committee Report: There is an issue on the policy of “Play for Pay” which could impact those who wish to play.

Old Business:

1. 125th Anniversary: The building and bar will be open and the sign-up sheet is available. There will be a pie and ice cream fundraiser on Thursday. The homemade beer and wine tasting is Saturday from 5 – 8:00. There is a sign-up sheet for the food stand with several time slots to fill.

2. Building Roof Update: The north wall cracks need to be repaired and some blocks replaced. Bids estimated cost of $8,336.00 and water proofing cost of $3,832.00. Tuck pointing needs to be done before we can start with roof replacement.

3. Fireworks Update: There was a discussion of what to do with donations. Gale Larson Moved that this donation be given to the 125th Committee. 2nd, Motion passed.

4. State Legion Golf Tournament: Jim’s committee is working on this and all will be ready by Sept. 13th.

5. Jesse James Raffle: Tickets are passed out with tickets also at the Treasure Chest.

New Business:

Next meeting will be July 10 at 8 p.m. with meal at 7 p.m.

There was a motion passed for Post to make up the difference in the National Emergency Fund to total $100. .

The next Legion breakfast is Aug 3.

Veterans and Spouses Job Fair will be Wed, Aug 6 from 10 am to 2 p.m. at Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, no charge to attend.

Next county meeting will be Sept 30.

The State Convention is to be held 19-21 Jun in Pierre. Info in Up to Now. Six delegates and 6 Alternates: Names so far include: James Kurtz, Steve Kirton, Mark Williamson, Tom Tyrrell, Paul Evenson, Reid Christopherson

For recognition for continuous Service and “Legionnaire of the Month”--for June it was Merle Lamp who has been the commander of the color guard for over 20 years.

A thank you card was received from Jera Sands for her citizenship award.

Closing Ceremony: Post Commander Luebke conducted the usual closing ceremony at 8:51 p.m.
